The Time Machine stops in 2005 this time. The virtual band Gorillaz were big in Japan and even bigger in the U.K. Fiona Apple followed her own arrow with her Extraordinary Machine album. Caesars had a near hit thanks to an Apple commercial. Beck revisited his East L.A. youth on his Guero album. LCD Soundsystem issued their debut. The Current went on the air. And it was the year Hurricane Katrina slammed into the U.S. Gulf Coast, including New Orleans. It's all 2005, our year on this episode of Time Machine Tuesday.
The most infamous storm in U.S. history, Hurricane Katrina carved a path of destruction from Miami to New Orleans, and up the Eastern United States. The storm reached a maximum intensity of Category 5 status, with 175 mph sustained winds. Hurricane Katrina made landfall in the morning of August 29, 2005. This infrared satellite imagery shows the storm's intensity: white is the most intense, followed by red, green, and blue.
