Bill DeVille’s first day at The Current was the day the station signed on, in January 2005 — so that’s 18 years and counting. He was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was the kid who grew up with an AM radio tucked under his pillow and had a friend who was a DJ while he was in high school. Finally, he dared himself to pursue it, and several decades later, he’s still doing radio.
His many highlights over the past 18 years at The Current include interviewing icons such as Neil Young, Robert Plant, Lucinda Williams, Justin Townes Earle, and more. Part of his interview with the Mekons was even used in the film Revenge of the Mekons. Growing up, he listened to a lot of the Clash, Johnny Cash, and Elvis Costello. These days, his musical interest ranges from reggae to New Orleans blues as well as sounds of the ’60s and ’70s.
His favorite genre is Americana, a lot of which you can hear on United States of Americana, which he hosts on The Current from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. each Sunday. You can also hear him on Teenage Kicks from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. each Saturday.
