This week on Teenage Kicks, the featured artists are Trip Shakespeare, a Minneapolis band that included two members of Semisonic ... who are performing this weekend at The Current's 18th anniversary party!

Also this week, birthday wishes to: John Lydon (aka Johnny Rotten of Sex Pistols), born Jan. 31, 1956; Eddie Van Halen, who would have celebrated his 68th birthday on Jan. 26 — born in 1955 in Amsterdam, he passed away in October 2020 at the age of 65; and Ramones drummer "Tommy" Ramone (Tom Erdelyi) of Ramones, who passed away at the age of 65 in July 2014, he was born Jan. 26, 1949 in Budapest, Hungary.

I also played "I Wanna Be Your Lover" by Prince, who made his infamous first national television appearance on American Bandstand with host Dick Clark on Jan. 26, 1980. And I gave a nod to Def Jam Records, who released their first single ("It's Yours" by T La Rock and Jazzy Jay) on Jan. 28, 1984.

I was also pleased to spin a track by Têtes Noires, the ground-breaking all women rock band from Minnesota. On Jan. 26, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and the Minneapolis City Council passed a resolution honoring Camille J. Gage, founding member of the band (and singer & keyboardist) and a much beloved visual artist, activist and community leader, for her contributions to the arts and humanities in Minnesota. Gage passed away in December 2022. The Hook & Ladder will host of celebration of Gage's life on Saturday, Feb. 4.
