40th anniversary of U2's 'War'
February 25, 2023
This week's show celebrates the 40th anniversary of U2's third album, War, the Irish rock band's first album to sell more than a million copies — and the first to focus on politically and socially conscious themes. While rock music and charity have gone hand-in-hand for years, over the course of their very prolific and creatively diverse career, U2 have cemented their reputation as international leaders in social justice and activism. (And they also just announced a 12-night residency at the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas, scheduled to kick off some time this fall).
Today would have been George Harrison's 80th birthday, born Feb. 25, 1943, in Liverpool, England); tonight at The Parkway Theater in Minneapolis, a stellar roster of veteran Twin Cities musicians will pay tribute to Harrison’s musical legacy.
And don't miss a rare performance by Eau Claire, Wis., legends The Urge on March 4, when they open for The April Fools at The Hook & Ladder Theater and Lounge in Minneapolis.
