This week we’re celebrating the birth of hip hop. On August 11th, 1973, legendary DJ Kool Herc lit up a house party in the Bronx with his turntables, sparking an art form that’s touched every corner of the world and evolved into one of the most significant cultural forces today. That’s right – with two turntables and a microphone, a musical revolution was born! We’ll be celebrating 50 years of hip hop, spinning some of those early pioneers of the genre – and also chatting with The Current’s own production manager Derrick “Sweet D aka Kid Delite” Stevens, who shares his first-hand account as a witness to and participant in the birth of hip-hop in NYC and its emergence in the Twin Cities.
