October 14, 2023
This week we’re revisiting the debut album from singer, songwriter, actress and activist Cyndi Lauper. “She’s So Unusual,” released forty years ago on October 14, 1983, was the first debut album by a female artist to feature four top-five singles on the Billboard Hot 100 -- all from the same release. Mixing new wave, synth pop and pop rock – “She’s So Unusual” was one of the best-selling albums of the 80s – and earned Cyndi Lauper two Grammy Awards including Best New Artist. Known for her distinctive look and powerful four-octave vocal range, Cyndi Lauper is also an Emmy and Tony Award winner -- and celebrated for her activism and humanitarian work. Let’s pay tribute to an icon who helped revolutionize the role of women in rock & roll!
