9:30 Coffee Break: Love is the Law

Today marks a historic day for Minnesota and we are putting together a 9:30 Coffee Break of bands that rock with pride.

This afternoon Gov. Dayton will sign a bill into law that makes Minnesota the 12th state to legalize same-sex marriage. Many local musicians responded to the historic vote yesterday online. And a few will be participating in a concert later today in St. Paul on EcoLab Plaza.

We want to acknowledge the historic moment for Minnesota by playing artists who "rock with pride". What do we mean by "rock with pride"? Well, we're looking for musicians or bands whose members self-identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer. We'd also put in artists who've aligned themselves with a pro-LGBTQ stance.

We're not looking to speculate or "out" anyone; rather, we're interested in creating a soundtrack based on artists that we'd be proud to be playing on The Current. (Think Stephen Merrit more so than Clay Aiken).

Songs Played:

Queen - "Don't Stop Me Now"

Tegan and Sara - "Back in Your Head"

Magnetic Fields - "Absolutely Cuckoo"

Bob Mould - "The Decent"

Brandi Carlisle - "Keep Your Heart Young"

Rufus Wainwright - "One Man Guy"
