Weekend Arts Roundup: Halloween Treats

MPR News' Arts Reporter Marianne Combs joins Jill Riley and Jade to talk about all kinds of ways to celebrate Halloween that combine arts sensibility with ghosts-and-goblins fun.
Southern Theater in Minneapolis hosts this second annual festival celebrating all things spooky and scary.
7 p.m. — The Harty Boys and the Mystery of the Mall of America of Death (Comedy Suitcase)
8:30 p.m. — Edgar Allan (The Coldharts)
10 p.m. — The Murderer Did It! (Four Humors)
11:30 p.m. – Hear No Evil (RawRedMeat)
Experimental musician Jandek brings his eerie crooning to The Cedar for an evening of haunting improvisation.
Families are welcome for an evening of artsy Halloween fun at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. Kids can go searching for black cats and pumpkins, make bats and snack on cider and cookies. Costumes are encouraged, but for security reasons, no face masks are allowed.
Take in a really creepy movie directed by Nobuhiko Obayashi, featuring, among other things, a possessed cat and a bloodthirsty piano.
5. Scary Ink 2 – Halloween Poster Show
Local Twin Cities poster artists use their skills to create grisly, ghastly and ghoulish artwork for your walls. The opening reception is tonight from 7 p.m. to midnight; the show runs through Nov 16.
