MPR's Movie Maven Stephanie Curtis joins Steve Seel and Jill Riley to talk about a new film, starring Angelina Jolie, that explores the life of the fairy who placed a curse on Sleeping Beauty.

Maleficent is the name of the title character, played by Jolie. Stephanie calls Jolie's performance "fantastic," and describes the film itself as a character study that looks into the hows and whys of Maleficent's transformation from an otherwise kind fairy into one whose motivations are evil.

Stephanie says that while the film is ostensibly for kids, she's not sure a character study is something kids will embrace. Listen to the audio to hear Stephanie's complete review.

Directed by first-time director Robert Stromberg, Maleficent is rated PG "for sequences of fantasy action and violence, including frightening images." It is playing at theaters everywhere.

MPR's Movie Maven, Stephanie Curtis, joins The Current's Morning Show to talk about films every Friday at 8:30 a.m.
