9:30 Coffee Break: Banned From SNL
September 08, 2014

After a 23 year absence from playing a hometown show, The Replacements return to headline a sold-out show on Saturday. There is, however, a place that The Replacements have been absent from for even longer: NBC. After being banned from Saturday Night Live in 1986 for being drunk and disorderly, the band will return to 30 Rock to play The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon tomorrow night.
As part of our ode to The Replacements week, we decided to look at the small, but distinguished list of artists that have been banned from SNL: The Replacements, Frank Zappa, Cypress Hill, Fear, Sinead O'Connor, and Elvis Costello. What songs from the banned artists (that we can play on our airwaves without getting banned) do you want to hear for today's 9:30 Coffee Break?
Songs Played:
Elvis Costello - "Radio, Radio"
Sinead O'Connor - "The Emperor's New Clothes"
The Replacements - "Kiss Me on the Bus"
Fear - "Beef Bologna"
Frank Zappa - "I'm the Slime"
Cypress Hill - "Insane in the Brain"
Do you want Jill and Steve to visit you at work? They'll bring coffee and treats from Gigi's Cafe and live music from local act Tropical Depression. Write a creative email letting Jill and Steve know why you deserve a Coffee Break on the Road and you might win: CoffeeBreak@TheCurrent.org
