It's time for round two of Local Current's DJ in Residence! Last month, we had the crazy idea of inviting a local musician to take over our all-Minnesota music stream to talk about the local music scene and to spin tracks from other local musicians. With the help of Martin Devaney, our first-ever DJ in Residence, we did just that — and it seemed to work. (The proof is in the pudding: read Martin's reflections on the project here.)

In June, we're turning the tables again and putting Sophia Eris behind the mic! A Minneapolis transplant from Dayton, Ohio, Sophia is a '90s-inspired emerging emcee who you may recognize as a founding member of female hip-hop collectives The Chalice and GRRRL PRTY. Most recently, she's evolved into an international touring DJ for rapper and emcee Lizzo.

"

I am so excited to hold down the online Local Current stream this month!" says Sophia Eris. "I'll be playing some of my favorite jams from friends and icons while sharing my experiences that I've had so far within the Minneapolis music scene and beyond. Join me in my first segment, this Friday at noon, as I take you on a journey of how I was introduced to the Minneapolis music scene — and expect an Eyedea and Abilities track every hour!"

Spend your Friday afternoons delving deep into the Minnesota music scene with Sophia Eris: every Friday in June from noon until 6:00 p.m. on Local Current.
