The city of Cesena in Italy recently staged a 1,000-member band playing a cover of the Foo Fighters’ “Learn to Fly.” A video of the performance was uploaded to YouTube and quickly went viral, garnering more than 15 million views in three days. Among the viewers was Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl, who was so touched by the performance that he promises the people of Cesena — in their native tongue — that the Foo Fighters will visit Cesena, likely in November of this year. Country singer-songwriter Lynn Anderson died on Thursday, July 30, at a hospital in Nashville, Tenn., after suffering a heart attack. She is best-known for her 1970 mega-hit, “Rose Garden.” (Rolling Stone)

Despite widespread production, distribution and listening to music, David Byrne is concerned about the future of the music industry. In an editorial in the New York Times, Byrne writes, "making a living in this new musical landscape seems impossible. I myself am doing O.K., but my concern is for the artists coming up: How will they make a life in music?"
