The Chart Show: Bully, Death Cab for Cutie inducted to Hall of Fame

Jeff Tweedy has plenty of reasons to celebrate this week! He turned 48 years old yesterday, Wilco are the highest new entry and Star Wars is The Current's Album of the Week! Mac Wilson called it "a rarity amongst Wilco albums in that it seems to actively shy away from analysis."
Submit your Chart Show ballot this week for a chance to win tickets to alt-J's show at Roy Wilkins Auditorium on Thursday, Sept. 17!
Tame Impala are the second highest new entry with a song that has been heavily analyzed: is it really sexist or just brute honesty? "'Cause I'm a Man" is off Currents, an album that is also being scrutinized for evidence of sampling without permission.
Ben Folds is back at No.16 after a three year hiatus. Witty lyrics have always been his stand out quality, but now he's trying to fashion a new sound that he dubs "chamber rock," working with avant-garde contemporary composers yMusic and the Nashville Symphony and describing himself as a rock musician dressed in classical clothing. It's also an interesting departure for New West Records, who usually deal in Americana, and where our old friend Peter Jesperson (long time manager of the Replacements) works now.
Courtney Barnett is also back after a short hiatus at No.19. She caused a stir on the streets of London last week by setting up to record a video for "Nobody Really Cares If You Don't Go to the Party" which NME premiered. Barnett also made a short video with them about how she learned to play guitar, explaining that buying one is hard for her because she's left handed.
Keef makes his debut on our chart! Rolling stone Keith Richards is determined to keep rolling now that the Stones' world tour is over. His third solo album, but first in over 20 years, comes out Sept. 18, and the old dog is finding new tricks to release portions of it to the world: scavenger hunt around London to find special plaques marking significant locations in Keef's life and get digital first access to a song!
Alicia Bognanno has cut her teeth in several of the music worlds storied locations. She grew up here in Minnesota, interned for Steve Albini in Chicago and now resides in Nashville. So it's fitting that her band Bully now also make their debut in our Chart Show Hall of Fame. No wonder their 7th St. Entry gig on Oct. 12 is the only one on their tour that is already sold out!
Death Cab For Cutie are inducted for the third time, putting them at No.30 on the All-Time Hall of Fame chart. They resume touring on Sept. 4 at a sold out show in Portland, Maine then work their way to Madison Square Garden on Sept. 12, followed by two sold out shows in Austin and a U.S. tour-wrapping three sold out shows in Seattle before heading to Europe in October
There are four more songs destined to be inducted next week, so major turnover is ahead – don't forget to vote! And if you're at the Minnesota State Fair, stop by and say hi at the corner of Judson and Nelson to hear me broadcast live from 3 to 7 p.m. weekdays.
