The Chart Show: Beck hits No.1 with song of the summer contender

So it's over: What was the song of the summer?! The "Get Lucky" or "Pumped Up Kicks" of 2015?! Unless I'm forgetting something obvious, there really hasn't been one, but Beck's "Dreams" might qualify now! It jumps to the top at last for the final week of summer and is set to be inducted to the Chart Show Hall of Fame.
Submit your Chart Show ballot this week for a chance to win tickets to Beach House's show at First Avenue on Wednesday, Sept. 23!
This week the Staves are inducted for the first time. The U.K. sisters have had a good summer, sharing some of it with us at the inaugural Eaux Claires Music and Arts Festival and in The Current studio.
Laura Marling is the highest new entry this week with perhaps her most loud, electric jam yet. She'll be turning up the volume at Festival Palomino next weekend at Canterbury Park.
Dawes are also new with the title track off their album. This week the band is running a cool competition on their website. A lip-syncing winner gets to play their favorite classic rock song on stage with Dawes! Only catch is, it will happen in Paris – global shout-out to our French Chart Show posse!
The basement entry this week just played Paris last night! Leon Bridges will stay in Europe until October when he'll start his U.S. tour in Austin, Texas. Every show is sold out (except in Houston and Columbus, Ohio), including First Avenue on Oct. 28.
You might think that one of our Chart Show members would be unlikely to play with an orchestra, but in a new interview with NPR Ben Folds says that he grew up playing in them and regularly has over the past 10 years. His new album features the Nashville Philharmonic and contemporary classical group ymusic who will join Ben on his upcoming tour.
You might also be surprised to hear Minnesota's own Low talking about breastfeeding backstage! Again on NPR, Mimi Parker is interviewed by Sharon Van Etten where they discuss Mimi's parental road stories, like the time her young daughter Hollis wandered out on stage in Seattle!
Hope you all had a good summer. Best Labor Day ev-ah weather-wise in Minnesota! And thanks to all of you who stopped by to say hi at the MPR booth at the Minnesota State Fair. It's always an honor and a pleasure to meet you and see in your eyes how much Minnesota Public Radio means to you!
