Friday is Canada Day so it's appropriate that the Tragically Hip, often known as Canada's band, are new this week at No.20. Gord Downie, the beloved lead singer, announced last month that he has terminal cancer, but that they would at least tour their home country this summer.
Submit your Chart Show ballot this week for a chance to win tickets to Billy Idol's sold out show at First Avenue on Sunday, July 10!
The Lumineers are in Canada this week, too, on their massive world tour which is scheduled through November with BORNS (at No.13) joining them for some dates in the fall. They are new again this week with the title track off Cleopatra.
Adele storms back on this week after a massively successful headlining gig at Glastonbury at the weekend. When she was announced as a headliner some had doubted that she could pull it off, but aside from giving the BBC trouble — as they were broadcasting it and she swore 33 times — everyone agrees she was magnificent!
Beck was also at Glastonbury, the biggest of the U.K. festival season, and he won everyone over with a set full of hits. He didn't even play his new hit "Wow" which is new at No.2 this week, but paid tribute to both Bowie and Prince ... wow?!
Lizzo stays at the top for the fourth week. She has some big festival dates coming up in the U.S. soon, including 80/35 in Des Moines next Saturday.
The Avett Brothers slipped a few places this week, but True Sadness is now out – it's our Album of the Week!
Sturgill Simpson is inducted to our Hall of Fame for the first time and got another huge honor last week with a spot on the Farm Aid 2016 lineup with Willie Nelson, Alabama Shakes, Nathaniel Rateliff and Margo Price, among others.
And speaking of charts, NPR has summarized the first half of the year in music with two lists, 30 Best Albums and 100 Best Songs, which mention a few of the artists on our chart, case/lang/veirs and Chance the Rapper among them.
Thanks to everyone who came down to the Pride Parade on Sunday. We had a blast walking with our brand new van, GRRRL Scout deejays and some terrific break dancers. Here's Brian Oake and I leading the way!
