DJ Pick of the Week: Jill Riley, Lucius, 'The Punisher'

This week, it's my turn to select the DJ Pick of the Week. The song I've chosen is one I heard very recently because we just added it to The Current's playlist, and it's from a band that I really love; in fact, one of their songs made my Top 10 list of 2016 for our Top 89. That would be the band Lucius.

Their album, Good Grief, just completely blew me away this year. And now, Lucius dropped a couple new songs. They released a 10-inch record for the Black Friday Record Store Day, the day after Thanksgiving. One of the songs on the 10-inch is called "The Punisher"; the other is called "Pulling Teeth." But it's "The Punisher" is the one that I heard and loved it right away.

When Lucius released the 10-inch record for Record Store Day, it made me wonder, "Well, are they going to make a new record? Is this a new EP that they're just kind of previewing?" Turns out it's actually a companion piece to Good Grief.

As is typical of any band making an album, Lucius wrote and recoded a bunch of songs for Good Grief, but not everything made the cut. "Pulling Teeth" and "The Punisher" are great songs; they just didn't fit onto the latest album. So Lucius released a 10-inch, and I just love the song, "The Punisher," and I hope you love it, too.
