Nicholas Ramirez of Worthington, Minn., a high school sophomore and a fan of Green Day, got the chance to play guitar with the band on Saturday as a sort of good-karma reward for being kind to a fellow fan.

Standing near the stage, Ramirez agreed to hold a spot for a woman who needed to use the restroom. When she got back, she discovered that Ramirez knew how to play guitar — and started talking with other nearby concertgoers about how to get the young man on stage with Green Day.

About an hour into the concert, Billie Joe Armstrong asked for a volunteer guitar-slinger. "The guys around me kind of raised me up so he could see me, and they all screamed for me," Ramirez later said. Armstrong invited Ramirez onto the stage, showed him three chords to play on the song "Knowledge," and let him perform with the band in front of 15,000 people. (MPR News)

Spotify to allow some artists to withhold new albums from its free tier for the first two weeks after release date

The music-streaming company Spotify has made an agreement with Universal Music Group — a label representing artists like Drake, U2, and Lady Gaga — that will give some Universal artists the choice to release new albums on Spotify's premium paid tier only for the first two weeks, giving paying users a chance to listen to the music before it reaches users of Spotify's free service.

The agreement comes three years after Taylor Swift pulled her music from Spotify in 2014 — in part, reportedly, over Spotify's refusal to let her share music exclusively on the paid tier. On Spotify, artists and labels earn more when music is played by paying users than when the same music is played on Spotify's free service. (New York Times)

This comes after Chance the Rapper’s Coloring Book became the first streaming-only album to win a Grammy. (Pitchfork)

AC/DC's Brian Johnson to host new travel TV show

What's Brian Johnson up to since leaving AC/DC? He's taking a road trip — and bringing some famous friends.

Brian Johnson's Life on the Road will premiere on Apr. 28 on the U.K. service Sky Arts, featuring Johnson's take on touring. Each week the show will feature an interview with a different musician — such as the Who’s Roger Daltrey, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, Pink Floyd’s Nick Mason, Sting, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott, and Robert Plant.

Johnson was AC/DC's third lead singer, until he left the band in 2016 due to hearing issues. (Rolling Stone)

"Cash Me Outside" girl makes musical inroads

Danielle Bregoli has been seen meeting with well-known producers Mark Batson and Che Pope, reportedly for some career coaching and piano lessons. Recognize her? You might know her better as the "cash me outside" girl.

The 13-year-old went viral after telling a Dr. Phil audience to "cash me outside" (in other words, "catch me outside," meaning, "try me in a street fight"), and has already begun making her way into the music world, having been sampled in a song that hit the Billboard Hot 100. Will a record deal be next? (Billboard)
