Music fans everywhere have heard of Athens, Georgia — a place that launched the careers of artists such as R.E.M., the B-52's, Widespread Panic and the late Vic Chesnutt, and it remains the home base of bands like Of Montreal, the Drive-By Truckers and others.

With so much musical heritage in a city of 115,000 residents and the home of the University of Georgia, Athens continues to enjoy a vibrant music scene.

Nuci's Space is a nonprofit resource center for musicians — Nuci's Space, located next to the "R.E.M. steeple," is a non-profit resource center for musicians, offering affordable rehearsal space and access to a network of mental-health support. The center was established by the family of musician Nuci Phillips, who died in 1996 after a long battle with depression.
