Daptone Records has announced the final album by Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. Titled Soul of a Woman, the album will be released on Nov. 17, 2017.

One of the most influential rhythm and blues voices of the 21st century, Sharon Jones was nominated for her first Grammy award for the 2014 release, Give The People What They Want. In a music career that blossomed as Jones entered her 40s, Jones toured and performed tirelessly, and she was the subject of Miss Sharon Jones!, an acclaimed documentary by Oscar-winning director Barbara Kopple. Those who witnessed Jones's live performances, such as her set at Rock the Garden 2010, know that Jones poured all she had into every moment on stage.

Before her death from pancreatic cancer in 2016, Jones and the Dap-Kings recorded a final studio album. "The last couple of years, Sharon was battling," says Dap-Kings bass player Bosco Mann, who produced the album. "When she was strongest, that's when we'd go into the studio — Sharon couldn't phone it in, so we would only work when she was really feeling it."

The group recorded Soul of a Woman straight to eight-track tape at Daptone's House of Soul studio in Brooklyn, N.Y. Mann says this approach captured all an emotion and immediacy in the band's performances.

"Sharon used to say 'What comes from the heart reaches the heart'," Mann says, "and I think everybody had that sense of pouring their heart into this record."

Daptone released the official video for the first single from the forthcoming album, "Matter of Time," viewable below:
