Although it's been used as a parking garage for nearly two decades, the Minneapolis Armory has a rich history that you might not know about even if you walk past it every day. Built in 1935, the armory was primarily used for training the Minnesota National Guard but it was also equipped with athletic facilities and hosted many sporting events, concerts, and other civic events while it was in operation.

Now, after being completely renovated, the Minneapolis Armory will open its doors once again as a concert and event venue just in time for the 2018 Super Bowl. As the countdown continues, take a look back at one of the city's most historic structures.

Simone Cazares is a student at Saint Paul College. Originally from Miami, Fla., she survives Minnesota's cruel winters by immersing herself in the Twin Cities music scene.
