The Chart Show: Lizzo Leads the Way

Lizzo
LizzoAtlantic Records

April 25, 2019

Unsurprisingly after her album dropped last Friday, Lizzo has returned to the top. It is rather surprising though how quickly she has embedded herself in mainstream media. CNN, E! And Rolling Stone all singing her praises here and NME and The Guardian in the U.K. This level of interest has prompted her to expand the tour, after quickly selling out The Palace May 5. Tickets go on sale Friday for October 9 at The Armory, and we have pre-sale deets!

The other amazing success story of the year so far is Billie Eilish, who'd have a lock on the Number One spot if it weren't for Lizzo! She was hailed as one of the big successes of Coachella. She was supposed to play the small John Peel Stage at Glastonbury but that is now being reconsidered.

The biggest climbers this week are The Cactus Blossoms, back up to #3. They're touring their Easy Way album right now which includes a gig at The MN Zoo June 1.

Another big jump of eleven places for Jade Bird, to six as her debut self titled album came out Friday. NPR did a sweet interview with her at the weekend detailing the process of her songwriting.

One of this years guests at Rock The Garden is also up three places to seven, Courtney Barnett.

Although the reviews for their two weekends as headliners of Coachella were underwhelming, and they still don't have a new album ready apparently, Tame Impala bounce back to eight this week. They've announced more tour dates, including a gig at The Surly Brewing Festival Field July 30.

The only brand new entry at number nine is Vampire Weekend, the second song from the new 'Father of the Bride' to chart. Ezra of the band celebrated the album release recently in a Tokyo pop-up t-shirt store and sang an acoustic version of this song.
