About the Contestants
Jana Shortal is a reporter and co-anchor of Breaking the News on KARE 11. Jana began reporting for KARE in December of 2003, just in time for the temperatures to fall below her idea of freezing. Before coming to KARE, she worked at Fox4 in Kansas City and KRCG in Jefferson City, Mo. She has received five Regional Emmys in her career and is a member of the National Association of LGBTQ Journalists. Jana has a Bachelors Degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism. She loves to run, having been in road races for more than 10 years. She's a writer as well, and she says she's working on making her journal into something the masses will read.
Angela Davis is the host of MPR News with Angela Davis, a weekday talk show where she leads conversations on a wide variety of topics including how the state is changing, Minnesota's persistent racial disparities, economic issues, education and mental health. Before joining MPR News, Angela anchored newscasts at WCCO-TV in Minneapolis and KSTP-TV in St. Paul. She has won five regional Emmy awards for anchoring and covering breaking news, and she has worked at CNN in Atlanta and at local stations in Washington, D.C.; Dallas, Texas; and Lexington, Ky. Angela grew up in Virginia and holds a journalism degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. She also did graduate work in urban affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington. She is a member of the local and national chapters of the National Association of Black Journalists and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
