It's the birthday of singer-songwriter Nick Lowe, born March 24 in England. With a career stretching back to 1966, Lowe is well known for his songs "Cruel to Be Kind" and "I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass." In recent years, Lowe has also received acclaim for his holiday album, Quality Street, and its hit single, "Christmas at the Airport." Lowe is still actively touring, and for many of his concert dates, he's backed by the talented and mysterious band Los Straitjackets.
But in addition to his own musical output, Nick Lowe is a highly accomplished music producer, having worked with artists including Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, the Pretenders and more. Let's celebrate Nick Lowe's birthday by shining a spotlight on his production work. So for today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs produced by Nick Lowe do you want to hear?
