May 3 is the birthday of Frankie Valli, an Italian-American singer best known for his work as the frontman of the pop group the Four Seasons, who enjoyed a string of hits in the 1960s and 70s, including "Sherry," "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Walk Like a Man," "Rag Doll," and "December, 1963 (Oh, What a Night)." Valli also enjoyed success as a solo artist, racking up hits like "Can't Take My Eyes Off You," "My Eyes Adored You," and the theme from "Grease," which we heard earlier this morning as today's Vinyl Tap pick.

A signature element of Valli's vocal style — particularly in his work with the Four Seasons — is his ability to sing falsetto; that is, his ability to sing notes much higher than his normal vocal range.

Valli is among several practitioners of falsetto voice in pop music. Smokey Robinson, Barry Gibb and Brian Wilson are just a few others who come to mind. In honor of Frankie Valli's birthday, let's celebrate these and other gifted falsetto vocalists. For today's 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs featuring falsetto vocals do you want to hear?
