On this day in 1993, Bjork of The Sugarcubes released her debut album, aptly titled, Debut. Bjork is one of many prominent artists that got their starts from being in a band and went on to achieve success in their solo career as well. Music groups, no matter how successful they may become, tend to have an expiration date. It’s common for members of a band decide to call it quits because of artistic differences, a fight for the spotlight, or simply because they outgrow each other. As a result, there are plenty of great solo artists who had varying degrees of success with their first band or group. Sometimes their solo material is greater and more popular than the output they had with their original band.
