Today we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Curtis Mayfield’s album Super Fly, the soundtrack to the 1972 movie of the same name. The album was an immediate hit and is one of the few soundtracks to out-gross the film it accompanied. Super Fly was one of the pioneering soul concept albums, with its then-unique socially aware lyrics about poverty and drug abuse making the album stand out.
As we celebrate a classic of 1970s soul and funk music, let’s take a trip down memory lane. Today we are reviving Funky Friday… on a Monday. Sometimes you need a little funk and soul to get you through your week. For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what funky songs would you like to hear?
