Veronica Yvette Greenfield, aka Ronnie Spector, was born on this day in 1943. The Ronettes were the quintessential act of the early-Sixties girl-group era, and Spector’s silky, yet gritty voice powered all their songs. The Ronettes brought a tough, sexy twist to the classic girl group act. They weren’t all just mascara and miniskirts, they produced some of the greatest music of the century and became pioneers of early rock n roll. Ronnie Spector is acknowledged as the embodiment of the heart, soul, and passion of female rock and roll in the 1960s. Her gutsy attitude earned her the title of the original “bad girl of rock and roll". Ronnie peacefully left this world on January 12 of this year after a brief battle with cancer. The style, look, and sound of Ronnie Spector continue to serve as an inspiration and role model for generations.

As we celebrate the life of Veronica “Ronnie” Spector, let’s honor all the baddies that came before and after her. For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs from “bad girls of rock n roll” do you want to hear?
