It has recently been announced that singer-songwriter Jill Sobule, whose 1990s hits include "Supermodel" and the original "I Kissed a Girl," will star in her new musical F*CK7THGRADE. According to press material, F*CK7THGRADE invites audiences to, "Time travel back to the 70s as Jill Sobule, with the help of her middle school band, weaves a melodic tale about surviving 7th grade to become the first pop music artist to pen the first openly-Queer song that landed on the Billboard Top 20.”

This new show will follow many other successful jukebox musicals that are inspired by popular music. Included in that list are most notably Mamma Mia!, Saturday Night Fever, Jersey Boys, Rock of Ages, and Tina. Similarly, When the worlds of popular music and theater combine, we get masterpieces in the form of rock opera albums like Tommy, The Wall, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, and American Idiot. Whether or not they hit the stage, works like these showcases everything we love about music and performance art.

Let’s show our appreciation for the expression of music across all performance art disciplines. For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs from Jukebox Musicals or Rock Operas do you want to hear?
