Amy Winehouse was born today in 1983. Winehouse's 2003 debut album, Frank, was a critical success in the U.K., and her 2006 follow-up album, Back to Black, led to five 2008 Grammy Awards, tying what was then a record for the most wins by a female artist in a single night. Winehouse struggled with substance abuse and addiction. She died of an alcohol overdose on 23 July 2011, at the age of 27. She follows many other musicians who were gone too soon and left an unfulfilled legacy behind. Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, Karen Carpenter, Ian Curtis, and Kurt Cobain are among those whose lives and music careers were cut short. Though successful and accomplished in their musical talent, their short-lived careers left many mourning the loss of their unmet long-term potential.

Let’s take a moment to member the late great musicians with unfulfilled legacies. For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs from musicians that were gone too soon do you want to hear?
