Drummer, composer, and producer Anton Fier, a longtime staple of the New York downtown scene, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 66. He was an early member of The Lounge Lizards and The Feelies and founded The Golden Palominos. At various points, Fier was also a member of bands like Swans and Richard Hell’s Voidods. He collaborated regularly with fellow downtown fixtures like Bill Laswell, Arto Lindsay, and Rhys Chatham. Anton Fier also contributed to records from luminaries like the Electric Eels, Material, Herbie Hancock, Gil Scott-Heron, Laurie Anderson, Yoko Ono, Mick Jagger, Matthew Sweet, Los Lobos, Joe Henry, Jack Bruce, and Jeff Buckley.

Let’s honor Anton Fier’s legacy by listening to the music he helped create. For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs from Anton Fier do you want to hear?
