Ten years ago today, Led Zeppelin were among a group of artists who received Kennedy Center Honors from Barack Obama for their significant contribution to American culture and the arts. Led Zeppelin were credited for creating a new sound in rock and roll and for their vast and lasting influence.
The Kennedy Center Honors are annual honors given to those in the performing arts for their lifetime of contributions to American culture. They have been presented annually since 1978, culminating each December in a gala celebrating five honorees in the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, D.C. The gala performance is televised and typically includes musical tributes from notable artists. This year’s honorees include Amy Grant, Gladys Knight, and U2. What Kennedy Center Honors ceremony do you consider the most memorable? Do you have a favorite tribute or performance? Who do you think deserves a nomination for next year’s honors?
For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear from artists who have received Kennedy Center Honors?
