Top 10 Songs of 2022

1. Hippo Campus – “Ride or Die”

They have been my “ride or die” band since 2015. I feel like I’m figuring out adulthood with them. I went to their sold-out show at the Armory back in April. It was my 5th time seeing them. It was magical, as per usual.

2. Mitski – Laurel Hell (The entire album. I can’t pick just one song.)

Mitski speaks to my soul. I saw her in concert for the second time at the Palace Theatre in March of this year. I immediately started sobbing when she started singing.

3. LCD Soundsystem – “New Body Rhumba”

What can I say? They still got it. Forever making music that makes me disassociate.

4. Nation of Language – “From the Hill”

I really dig this song. They give me heavy ‘80s the Smiths/the Cure vibes.

5. Grace Cummings – “Heaven”

On my first day at The Current, I sat in on Grace Cummings’ in-studio performance. Her voice gave me chills. “Heaven” is such a quality song. It’s masterfully written.

6. Arctic Monkeys – “I’m Not Quite Where I Think I Am”

The album The Car may have disappointed some Arctic Monkeys fans, but not me. I love the sultry, simmering essence of this album. The band is taking us on a journey back in time to a smokey private club in the ‘60s. The spotlight is on Alex Turner as he croons about lost love and the bitter feeling of emptiness that follows.

7. Red Hot Chili Peppers – “Black Summer”

I picked this song because RHCP will always rock and I really enjoy the way Anthony Kiedis annunciates the line, “And China’s on the dark side of the moon.”

8. Maggie Rogers – “That’s Where I Am”

Maggie really puts her heart and soul into this record, and you can feel it.

9. Phoenix – “Tonight” feat. Ezra Koenig

It’s impossible not to bop your head to this song. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to learn Ezra Koenig was joining in on the track. Phoenix and Vampire Weekend are two bands that introduced me to the world of indie music back in the day.

10. Charli XCX – “Good Ones”

I added this one because I love and appreciate a good pop girlie. Charli XCX has made an appearance a few times on my running playlist.
