Hanukkah began last night at sunset. Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, is observed for eight nights and days. The festival is observed by lighting the candles of a candelabrum with nine branches, called a menorah. Other Hanukkah festivities include singing Hanukkah songs, playing the game of dreidel and eating oil-based foods, such as latkes and sufganiyot. There are plenty ways to celebrate. Musician Dave Grohl and producer Greg Kurstin are getting in the holiday spirit with the third annual Hanukkah Sessions. Every night of Hanukkah, Grohl and Kurstin are joined by special musical guests to perform covers of songs made famous by Jewish musicians.
Let’s get into the festive spirit with music from Jewish artists, songs that mention light or candles, or other tunes that you can associate with the Festival of Lights. For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what songs do you want to hear to celebrate Hanukkah?
