Earlier this week, the list of nominees for Best Original Song at this year’s Academy Awards was revealed. Included on the list is Lady Gaga for “Hold My Hand” (From Top Gun: Maverick), Rihanna for “Lift Me Up” (From Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), M. M. Keeravani for “Naatu Naatu” (From RRR), Son Lux along with David Byrne and Mitski for the track “This is a Life” (From Everything Everywhere All at Once), and Diane Warren with her 14th ever Oscar nomination through her song “Applause” (From Tell It Like a Woman).  

The history of Academy Awards for Best Original Song is rich with years of talent. Going all the way back to the year 1934, notable songs that have earned the award include “Over the Rainbow”, “When You Wish Upon a Star”, “Que Sera, Sera”, “Moon River”, “Fame”, “My Heart Will Go On”, and more recently “Shallow” and “No Time to Die”. Throughout the years, there have been some significant nominations that remain popular regardless of being passed up for the award.
