On this day in 1983, the first CD players were released in America, along with 16 albums on CD. This new digital-audio format, a five-inch compact disc or "CD" contained up to one hour of music, and was launched by Sony, Philips and Polygram. The first ever CD was the 1982 album The Visitors by Swedish pop group Abba. The biggest selling CD of all time is The Eagles’ 1976 Their Greatest Hits album, which sold over 38 million copies.

Do you remember your first CD? Has your music taste changed since then? Do you still listen to compact discs? Discuss in the comments.
