On this day 25 years ago, Tammy Wynette, known as the first lady of country music, passed away at the age of 55. Wynette scored 12 hit singles including "Stand By Your Man", and she sold more than 30 million records worldwide.

Tammy Wynette, along with other iconic artists like Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, and Dolly Parton, brought a woman’s perspective to the male-dominated country music field and helped other women find representation in the genre.
