Coffee Break: Songs from great 7th albums
by Mac Wilson
July 07, 2023

On the seventh day of the seventh month (July) of 1977, Styx released their seventh studio album, The Grand Illusion. That’s a lot of sevens! The collection includes the hit “Come Sail Away,” and lives on as one of the most-successful seventh albums in popular music. More strong seventh albums come from Elton John (Goodbye Yellow Brick Road), Madonna (Ray of Light), Bob Dylan (Blonde on Blonde), Kate Bush (The Red Shoes), Sonic Youth (Dirty), Depeche Mode (Violator), U2 (Achtung Baby), Beck (Midnite Vultures), and many more.
For an artist to reach seven albums is a decent feat in itself. If the music on it is worth hearing, that’s even better. Today, we celebrate musicians known for longevity, consistency, and perhaps a bit of luck.
For today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, which songs do you want to hear that are from celebrated 7th albums?
