Mac Wilson started his career in radio at KUMM 89.7 FM, the college radio station for the University of Minnesota Morris. He got off to an interesting start at The Current in 2006 when, on his second night on the air, there was a major technical malfunction. But things have been much better since — except, that is, for the time the entire system crashed during the day, and he had to spin vinyl for an hour while it got repaired.
Mac enjoys and appreciates the steady stream of new music that our programming team puts together, and he truly appreciates being able to spotlight a broad variety of music. He’s especially interested in the phenomenon of how certain artists — including Dawes, Best Coast, and The Lumineers — were not favorites of his at first but over time he grew to deeply appreciate them. He believes any song he plays might be someone’s favorite or least favorite, which is both humbling and grounding. He is always finding new ways and perspectives to present through the music he plays during his shifts.
You can catch Mac on the Current from 7 p.m. to midnight on weeknights.
