IT’S FAT TUESDAY!!!! The holiday — also known as Mardi Gras — celebrates the end of Carnival and marks the last day before Ash Wednesday at the beginning of Lent, a season observed by many Christian denominations. Mardi Gras is actually French for “fat Tuesday,” and it refers to indulging in the food and drink that one would abstain from during Lent, traditionally a time of fasting, prayer and charitable giving in the run-up to Easter. One city that is particularly famous for its Mardi Gras festivities is New Orleans, which celebrates with parades, parties and lots of live music.
