Nilufer Arsala joined The Current in April 2024. She comes to Minnesota Public Radio from Dallas by way of Oklahoma and has been active in radio since 2001.
Arsala describes her career as more of a calling than a choice. Her interest in radio piqued after visiting the American Broadcasting School booth at the Oklahoma State Fair, leading her to enroll and later teach there. She got her first radio job in McAlester, Oklahoma, before serving as production director and afternoon drive host at Power 103.5 in Oklahoma City. With years of experience in public and community radio at various Dallas stations, she most recently managed radio operations for North Texas Public Broadcasting and hosted middays and The Local Show at KXT before joining The Current.
Arsala’s passion for music was ignited in her teenage years during the ’90s. It was then that she watched shows like MTV's 120 Minutes, and fell in love with Nirvana and Pearl Jam, as well as R&B and hip-hop artists like Aaliyah and OutKast. Today, two of her favorite artists are Sierra Ferrell and Waxahatchee. Sharing her musical discoveries is one of her favorite things, and she’s excited to continue doing that with The Current’s audience.
As host/producer of The Current's Morning Show, Arsala is Jill Riley’s co-host and show producer. You can also catch her hosting from 5 – 7 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
