Coffee Break: Music Movies
by Jill Riley and Nilufer Arsala

Friday marks the anniversary of The Rose opening in theaters. The movie debuted in 1979 and starred Bette Midler as a rock star who makes it big. The Rose was based on the life of Janis Joplin, although filmmakers weren’t able to secure the rights to her story.
Midler was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for the title role and won the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for the theme song, which became one of her signature hits.
The anniversary got us thinking about music movies, and the artists who help make them happen. Sometimes the films are about a real artist, or even a fictional band. Let’s craft a playlist of songs related to your favorite hits… or flops.
So for today’s 9:30 Coffee Break, what are your favorite music movies?
