Coffee Break: Rockets & Space

Quite a few things are going on in the sky this week. We welcomed the first full moon of the season, which is known as the Pink Full Moon. The Farmer’s Almanac tells us it gets its name from the color of the early spring bloom of phlox subulata, or moss phlox, which is often referred to as the color “moss pink” and tends to bloom around this time of year.
On top of that (or around it), four astronauts are headed into space for a 10-day journey that will take them to the vicinity of the moon for the first time in more than fifty years. The mission is called a moonshot, and the four-person team is made up of NASA mission commander Reid Wiseman, NASA astronaut Christina Koch, NASA astronaut and pilot Victor Glover, and astronaut Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency.
Watch: NASA is shooting for the moon. Watch the launch of the Artemis II missionAccording to NPR, if their trip goes as planned, it will be the first time that a woman, a person of color, and a non-American will venture out around the moon. Let’s wish the astronauts well — and mark this epic moment — by creating a playlist that’s out of this world.
