If there is anything that deserves recognition with a special day, it’s the humble boombox. Luckily, Monday is International Boombox Day!

According to Bose, the first boombox was created in the Netherlands in the late 60s, and took off in the United States after Japanese manufacturers began mass-producing the “new technology” about a decade later. This made it easy to take music with you on the go, and changed the culture as people came together to celebrate their love of music.

International Boombox Day celebrates this portable music culture, and how the boombox could turn anywhere into a party. Let’s join in the fun and create a playlist full of boombox jams!
