A new EP by Minnesota hip-hop scene veterans Adam Garcia and Medium Zach finds connections with a new approach they developed in the early days of the pandemic.

Los Angeles-based folk-punk musician Sunny War is known for her virtuosic guitar playing accompanied by deeply honest lyrics reflecting 21st century concerns. She stopped by The Current studio to share some songs from her newest album, ‘Anarchist Gospel,’ and to talk about her start in music.

Nickel Creek’s latest album, ‘Celebrants,’ has brought the group on the road again, including a stop at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul. While in town for that show, Nickel Creek visited The Current to play songs from the new album and to chat with host Mac Wilson.

Starting Sunday, Sept. 10, the weekly show expands to five hours of local coverage from 7 p.m. to midnight.

“I wanted this to look like a documentary, documenting our ’90s,” says Garrity, on ‘Pushed Beyond All Reasonable Limits: The Music Photography of Brian D. Garrity’ out now.

While in the Twin Cities to kick off the tour for their latest album, ‘Time Will Wait for No One,’ Local Natives band members Taylor Rice, Ryan Hahn and Kelcey Ayer visited The Current studio in St. Paul to play stripped-down versions of songs from the new record and to chat with host Ayisha Jaffer.

Jon Batiste has an even bigger vision for what his album, ‘World Music Radio,’ can do. “It's really a movement of radical love and radical oneness, and thinking of how to manifest that as a way to not only present a live show, but for causes in the world,” he says. The rock 'n' roll band last released an album of original music in 2005, with A Bigger Bang. Hackney Diamonds will be their 24th album and their first since the death of drummer Charlie Watts.
