When alt-J came in to The Current studio, little did they know it would feel like a reunion of sorts. Before their show at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium, Gus Unger-Hamilton and Joe Newman of alt-J stopped at The Current studio to play some songs -- and to meet and swap stories with Mark Wheat, a person with whom they share a lot of common background.

Though 'Cardinal' was released back in Feb. 2016, Pinegrove are still selling out venues, like The Entry, in support of it. After some teasing of new music over this past summer, the promise of new music from Pinegrove is here. They stopped at The Current studio to share some of it.

In town for a show at the Turf Club in St. Paul, This Is The Kit visited The Current for an in-studio session hosted by Mary Lucia. This Is The Kit's latest album is 'Moonshine Freeze,' their first release on the Rough Trade Records label, an arrangement that has helped the band enjoy a wider reach with its music.

In mid-September, Bill DeVille was in Nashville, Tenn., for Americana Fest. While there, DeVille connected with JD McPherson at Addiction Sound Studios in Nashville, where they recorded a live in-studio session. McPherson performed songs from his new album, 'Undivided Heart and Soul,' and he talked to DeVille about his recent move to Nashville, and about all the food he enjoyed at the 2017 Minnesota State Fair.

Iron & Wine released their sixth album of new material, Beast Epic, on August 25, 2017. Here's songwriter/lead vocalist Sam Beam and a full band playing "Call It Dreaming," "About A Bruise," and "Thomas County Law" in The Current's studio.

On Sept. 23, 2017, a select group of The Current's listeners were treated to a #MicroShow with Josh Ritter, who performed at the Clown Lounge within the Turf Club in St. Paul. Ritter performed a number of songs from his latest album, 'Gathering,' which was released just one day before this MicroShow was recorded.

Anderson East and his band are touring the country, road-testing some recent singles from a not-yet-announced album. Traveling up through the Twin Cities between gigs in Madison, Wis., and the Wisconsin Dells, Anderson East and his band spoke with Mac Wilson and played some of the songs they've been woodshedding.

Following the release of Actual Wolf's 'Faded Days,' the lupine semi-local stopped by The Current to record a session with host Sean McPherson.

After releasing 'Hug of Thunder,' their first album in seven years, Broken Social Scene stopped at The Current for a session hosted by Mary Lucia. 'It felt like a very good time to come back with our unity vibe and with our friendship vibe,' says the band's Kevin Drew.

In town for back-to-back sold-out shows at the Palace Theatre in St. Paul, Britt Daniel and Alex Fischel of Spoon wandered over to The Current for a session hosted by Brian Oake and Jill Riley. Daniel and Fischel played stripped-down versions of songs from 'Hot Thoughts' and from 2014's 'They Want My Soul,' and Daniel talked about what has made Spoon such an enduring band.
