The expansive indie-folk group Fathom Lane, accompanied by the Laurels String Quartet, visited the studio for the Summer Music Series hosted by the Local Show's Andrea Swensson and MPR's Tom Weber.

David Rawlings is out with a new record, 'Poor David's Almanack,' featuring 10 new, original tunes. The album was released on Aug. 11, and Radio Heartland and The Current were lucky enough to enjoy Rawlings' first radio session in support of the new record. Rawlings is accompanied in studio by Gillian Welch, Paul Kowert, Brittany Haas and Willie Watson -- the same musicians heard on the studio album.

The 2017 Minnesota State Fair is underway, and it's a tradition for Bill DeVille to provide a rundown of some music picks at the Grandstand and at the many free stages around the fairgrounds, including the MPR booth. In looking at the 2017 State Fair lineup, DeVille calls it 'a banner year' for music.

Jeffrey Bissoy-Mattis has assembled a list of Twin Cities-based rappers on the ascent. 'This is not my top rappers of Minnesota list (too much talent to even begin to construct one),' Bissoy-Mattis writes.
