Royal Blood perform live in The Current studio
by Mark Wheat, Leah Garaas and Royal Blood
October 13, 2014
Royal Blood — Mike Kerr, vocals and bass; Ben Thatcher, drums — sound massive for being a two-piece. It's been less than two years since Royal Blood's conception, and the Brighton duo have already made massive waves in their homeland and across the pond.
Following the release of Royal Blood's critically-acclaimed self-titled debut, Kerr and Thatcher have recently been nominated for the prestigious U.K. Mercury Prize along with other English artists FKA twigs, Jungle, Damon Albarn and Bombay Bicycle Club.
With their success, Royal Blood have already had a few "pinch me, I can't believe that happened" moments. They've landing a gig(s) of a lifetime: opening for Pixies on their North American tour. Being on Jimmy Page's radar is exciting, too. The rock legend attended their gig at Brooklyn's Glasslands earlier this year and offered some encouraging words to Kerr and Thatcher following the show.
Thus far, Mike Kerr has gathered this much from his experience as a professional musician: "If you expect anything from music, then you're expecting too much."
