Sally Hedberg and Dana Raidt met last year when Hedberg was writing a story about the Girls Got Rhythm Fest, an event Raidt organized in 2012 and 2013 to spotlight female musicians. The two hit it off and soon launched a site for their project Girl Germs—named after Raidt's former podcast and Radio K show—to honor and celebrate women who create, love, and talk about music. Now, the duo have announced a live tribute show in the First Avenue Mainroom, featuring a diverse crew of local acts covering some of rock’s greatest female heroes. The show will take place May 30, and tickets will go on sale tomorrow, April 25, at noon.

The show will be hosted by Lori Barbero—a heroine in her own right, who drummed for the highly influential Twin Cities trio Babes in Toyland—and DJed by Jen Hughes. The lineup includes Night Moves covering the Cranberries, Pink Mink covering Bikini Kill, Strange Names covering the B-52s , L’assassins covering Thee Headcoatees, Fury Things covering Hole, Crystal (featuring members of Brute Heart) covering Sade, and Lydia Liza of Bomba de Luz covering Dusty Springfield.

The show is a mixed bag of sounds, and many genres are represented. The pair behind Girl Germs explain that this was part of the plan. Raidt told City Pages that “we made a conscious effort to put together a lineup of bands that you likely wouldn't normally see all on a bill together. We wanted to keep it somewhat musically diverse.”
