Movie Maven: 'Jersey Boys'
June 20, 2014
MPR News Movie Maven Stephanie Curtis joins Steve Seel and Jill Riley to talk about the new film, based on the Tony award-winning Broadway production, that tells the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
Jersey Boys is directed by Clint Eastwood, and Stephanie says that although it is a jukebox musical, the songs are all sung in the appropriate context. The cast is composed of actors who appeared in the Broadway productions, and all the actors do their own singing. Christopher Walken has a small role as an avuncular gangster.
Stephanie says Jersey Boys doesn't make being a pop star look like the most glamorous thing a person can do, and that it provides an interesting behind-the-scenes look at an industry that was in the midst of defining what it means to be a pop star. "I really, really liked it," Stephanie says. Listen to the audio above to hear her full review.
Jersey Boys is rated R for language throughout. It is playing at theaters everywhere.
