Heading into fall, The Current has made some exciting updates, including an enhanced weekend schedule. Starting the week of Oct. 20, changes take effect that will add more listening time with hosts Bill DeVille and Barb Abney. Plus, a couple of long-time specialty programs get new Saturday morning slots, and fans of R&B and hip-hop get a new block of listening on Saturday nights.
Take a look at the full list of updates below, which were made with the goal of providing the best mix of music programming for this present moment.
New on Saturdays:

Sheroes Radio – a weekly show amplifying diverse female voices hosted by Carmel Holt – will air 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Saturday mornings.
Transmission – DJ Jake Rudh’s weekly post-punk, new wave, and indie show – will air 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturday mornings, right before two hours of retro rock on Teenage Kicks.
Barb Abney’s final Radio Free Current airs Oct. 18, and then she will continue as Saturday night host from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Have a request? The Current’s programming team takes song requests right here.
The Message – Sanni Brown’s classic hip-hop and R&B show – will air 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday nights.
Carbon Sound – The Current’s stream focused on Black musical expression – hosts a curated mix right after The Message from 11 p.m. to midnight on Saturday nights.
New on Sundays:

United States of Americana – Bill DeVille’s program celebrating folk, bluegrass, alt-country, and more – will air 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday mornings. The longer show replaces the Radio Heartland on The Current program hosted by Mike Pengra, which remains on Radio Heartland via KNOW-HD2 (91.1FM-HD2 in the Twin Cities), and a 24-hour stream on thecurrent.org and The Current's App.
The Local Show – host Diane celebrates the best in Minnesota music – airs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday nights.
Barb Abney begins hosting from 9 p.m. to midnight on Sunday nights.
PLUS: The Current will launch a new show focused on emerging country singer-songwriters in January, airing on Sundays from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. Keep an eye out for more details at a later date!
